Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga and Bwindi is different because of the nature of the landscape; Bwindi has a thicker vegetation and the terrain is hillier compared to Bwindi’s. Mgahinga is also located in the far southwestern part of Uganda in Kisoro district just close to Bwindi forest national park.

In Uganda, this permit costs US$ 700 for foreign nonresidents, US$ 600 for foreign residents and UGX. 250,000 for East African citizens. The price for a gorilla permit is the same for Bwindi Impenetrable national park and Mgahinga national park.
How to book for a gorilla permit
You can purchase a gorilla permit up to two years prior to your travel date. It is obtained from Uganda Wildlife Authority through a registered tour company which you need to check if it is a member of the Uganda Tourism Board.
Best time for gorilla trekking
Gorilla trekking in Uganda is an all year –round activity although the dry season (January- February and June to September) is regarded as the best time because it offers easy trekking conditions. During the wet season, the trails are slippery and more challenging but tis experience becomes enjoyable for some travelers.
